The Poacher

Alton Road, Hook, Hampshire RG29 1RP – 01256 862218

Cracking little pub Got there quite late Friday for the Goodwood Festival of speed the next day. Staff were very friendly and sorted us with two delicious pizzas even though the restaurant was closed. Rooms are on the small side (part of the charm) but very cozy and all mod cons. Continental in the rooms with fresh pastries was a pleasant surprise at the price we paid for the rooms. The only small niggle was the entrance to rooms was around the back of the pub up a metal staircase which felt a bit like going in through the fire escape and might be a little slippy/dark in the winter months would thoroughly recommend it to anybody for a quick stop over

i have been reading the review on here from a year ago and i think he must have been in a different place to me. I work all over the country and this is one of the best places iv'e stayed. the rooms are immaculate the staff very pleasant and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a country pub staff and locals all up for a bit conversation.if i had one complaint it would be no tv in the bar (had to watch the rugby final in me room lol). they have 3 larger's and a couple of beers on tap although a little expensive at around £3.50 a pint not overly for the area.the food is fantastic i recommend the pizza (probably the best iv'e ever had) although a little expensive again but with food as with everything you get what you pay for . i recommend this place to everyone weather coming out for a nice meal and good company or for a place to stay its perfect.

Basingstoke Country Hotel

Nately Scures RG27 9JS – 01256 764161

Arrived got checked in,(105) room a bit small, a bit worn could perhaps do with a bit of a refit. The bathroom was in real need of some TLC the grout was grotty & the curtain needed replacing,All that said the staff were very busy & probably a bit short staffed. They were ALL brilliant & couldn't be more helpful. We had dinner bed & breakfast & the food was great, breakfast was very busy so my tip would be get to breakfast before 9am if there is a wedding on the day before. They did keep running out of stuff (between 9.30-10am) Although we were warned when we booked in there was a large wedding party & 200 for breakfast.Would recommend as the bits that need sorting are minor in comparison to the positives

Excellent, lovely room and great service

Great local boozer

The Hogget

London Rd, Hook, Hampshire RG27 9JJ – 01256 763009

A great place with loving staff and not to mention the very gooooooood food! We were looking for a place to eat some lunch (after being on the road for about 4 hours) but unfortunately for us, most of the pubs we went to were just about to close and some even just pushed us out. It was only here at The Hogget that everyone was so cheerfully happy that no matter how hungry we were, we ended up smiling. Not only does it end there, they were also extremely understanding and did us a huge favour. They were about to close but they heard us out and served us with the best salad I've eaten ever!! If you're ever in the area, make sure you drop by and try out their Chicken and Bacon Caesar's Salad!! Yummm! I'm surely going to drop by again if we visit Hampshire again.. :)

Went here for parents joint birthday meal and they happily booked us a table in a quiet spot. Nice atmosphere, mixture of old and new styles, polite staff and most importantly brilliant food. Great ingredients make the dishes quality pub grub. Not too fancy - which is good because there were some fussy eaters in our party. Good size portions and a nice mix of "something slightly different" and "pub classics". Would definately recommend.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Newlands Farm

Newlands Farm, Odiham, Hampshire RG29 1GD – 01256 702373

Newlands Farm B&B was a great experience - it is not easy to find as is out in the country and down a long concrete track but call the phone number and get the directions and you be OK. You will love it if you like the authentic farm-home type of B&B.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
